Both animals and the people who care for them are at high risk for Bartonella spp. infection (a.k.a. bartonellosis, cat scratch disease, cat scratch fever, trench fever, etc.). Based on the emerging research, we suspect that many more animals, veterinary workers and pet owners are affected by bartonellosis infection than is currently recognized — and we know that our pathogen testing can help bring about more awareness. To learn more about the emerging research and clinical picture for animals and people, please see our Patient Stories and our free medical webinar, Understanding Bartonella.

We offer a growing menu of molecular and serology test options for a range of zoonotic, vector-borne diseases, including Bartonella spp., Borrelia spp., Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp., Babesia spp. and Rickettsia spp. Please see our Test Menu & Pricing for details. We file insurance claims for Medicare and private insurance providers on an out-of-network basis. We also provide Clinicians Consults to support pathogen testing interpretation.

Step 1 – Order a Specimen Kit.

Licensed medical practitioners can order a specimen-collection kit using our online Kit Request Form. Once we receive the kit request form, the kit will be shipped for receipt within 5-7 business days. Specimen-collection kits include detailed instructions on sample collection and shipping, blood tubes, all required test forms and shipping materials. Patients may also order Galaxy testing from Any Lab Test Now without a physician’s order or insurance filing. Please see Any Lab Test Now for details. We do NOT provide specimen collection kits for international orders due to the high costs of shipping.

Step 2 – Collect the Sample.

All samples must be collected aseptically. Please review our Specimen Collection form for additional details. Laboratory regulations require that specimen tubes be labeled properly with at least two identifiers. Please ensure that tubes are correctly labeled so that we can process them immediately upon receipt. Any Lab Test Now provides blood draws with a physician’s order. Additionally, there are some states that allow mobile phlebotomy services to come to your home for a blood draw.

Step 3 – Complete all the required forms.

The specimen kit includes the following forms required to request pathogen testing, such as for Bartonella, Anaplasma, Borrelia, and more. Federal laboratory regulations require that the test request form be filled out with patient details (name, DOB, gender) and sample information (draw date).

Step 4 – Pack and Ship the Specimen.

Pack the specimen along with the required forms following the enclosed Shipping Instructions. Ship overnight with a frozen ice pack to our physical street address in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Specimens must be protected from high heat to ensure viability for BAPGM culture.

Shipping regulations require that clinical samples be triple packed and properly labeled (e.g., UN 2733 Category B Biological Samples). FedEx does not allow for drop off of Category B biological samples at their locations, so you MUST CALL FOR PICKUP. Please see FedEx or UPS for detailed requirements. Please DO NOT SHIP USPS as the US Postal Service does not deliver packages to our location. DO NOT USE COURIER DROP BOXES.
