Our enhanced Bartonella detection methods were developed by research experts in vector-borne disease at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU-CVM). The effectiveness of our testing methodology and the indications for testing are supported by published clinical research. New research is emerging to support the medical importance of Bartonella infection.
- Patented testing technology.
Even the most sensitive PCR detection methods can produce false negatives due to low levels of DNA available in a given sample. Our Bartonella ePCRTM test is built around a patented enrichment media, (BAPGM or Bartonella alpha Proteobacteria Growth Medium) which enhances the growth of these highly fastidious bacteria up to detectable levels for our highly sensitive PCR testing.
- Pre- and post-enrichment PCR.
Our Bartonella ePCRTM methodology is designed to minimize the likelihood of false negatives across all types of samples and patient cases. For that reason, we run PCRs both before and after enrichment culture to ensure that we capture any viable or nonviable DNA present in the sample.
- DNA sequence verification.
We sequence verify all positive PCR results to identify the species of infection, ensuring the highest level of specificity achievable. Sequence identification is an important step for Bartonella detection as virulence and resistance may vary across species. Over 26 species of Bartonella have been characterized and new species are identified each year.
