Edward Breitschwerdt, DVM

Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Breitschwerdt is an internist and professor of medicine and infectious diseases at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  He is a co-director of the Vector Borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory which has been testing animals for vector borne infections, including Bartonella since 1984.  With over 200 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Breitschwerdt is a internationally recognized leader in the area of Bartonella research, diagnosis, and treatment.  As consequences, he has consulted widely upon an array of infectious diseases for many large companies in the veterinary diagnostics, therapeutic, and vaccine industries. 

Ricardo Maggi, PhD

Scientific Technical Advisor and Lab Director

Dr. Maggi is a Galaxy co-founder.  He holds a doctorate in molecular biology and is an Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University.  Dr. Maggi  brings an exceptional and diverse background in molecular biology to Galaxy.  He has played an integral role in the development of the proprietary diagnostic technology and is responsible for the transition of Bartonella testing from the NC State Vector Borne Disease Diagnostics Lab (VBDDL) to the Galaxy lab. 

Christopher B. Kelly

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Kelly is a Galaxy co-founder.  Galaxy is his fourth startup.  His first company, Xlibris Corporation, was the first on-demand book publisher, and became a division of Random House Publishing.  Most recently, he led the transformation of Ribonomics, Inc.—a biotechnology spinout of Duke University. 

Amanda B. Elam, PhD

President

Dr. Elam is a Galaxy co-founder.  As both an entrepreneur and scholar, her doctoral research on entrepreneurship has been recognized by the Academy of Management for innovative thought leadership.  Dr. Elam recently completed two years of Postdoctoral Research at top-ranked schools of management, including the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia and Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  Dr. Elam brings start-up experience in HR, marketing, research, advanced statistical analysis, and fund-raising.
