Edward Breitschwerdt, DVM Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Breitschwerdt is an internist and professor of medicine and infectious diseases at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a co-director of the Vector Borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory which has been testing animals for vector borne infections, including Bartonella since 1984. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Breitschwerdt is a internationally recognized leader in the area of Bartonella research, diagnosis, and treatment. Scientific Technical Advisor and Lab Director Dr. Maggi is a Galaxy co-founder. He holds a doctorate in molecular biology and is an Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. Dr. Maggi brings an exceptional and diverse background in molecular biology to Galaxy. He has played an integral role in the development of the proprietary diagnostic technology and is responsible for the transition of Bartonella testing from the NC State Vector Borne Disease Diagnostics Lab (VBDDL) to the Galaxy lab.
